THE OLD STONE AGE

HOMES

Mandy: Hi! We are Tony, Fede and Mandy.
Lauti: Welcome to the old stone age!

Santi F: Yes! But now we know how to make fire!
(The home group sits down while the scientists look around. The fire group goes to the front.)

FIRE
Fede: Hello! How do you make fire?
Felipe: We strike two rocks (While striking them) near dry grass.
Rafa: Or we put a stick in a groove and we rub it (While doing it).
Tony: What do you use fire for?
Juanma: For cooking, for scaring animals, for being warm and for lighting up our caves.
Felipe: Mmm now we’re going to cook something delicious.
Rafa and Juanma: Yes! Yummy!
Mandy: What are you going to cook? (The fire group sits down and the food group goes to the front).

FOOD
Sofi: We’re going to cook a small animal. I’m very hungry.
Fede: What else do you eat?
Juani P: We pick fruit and berries like strawberries and blueberries from trees. They’re sweet and tasty! (She gives out some berries to the parents).
Sofi: And we also fish!
Tony: Cool! What animals do you know? (The food group sits down and the animal group goes to the front).

ANIMALS
Emi: In the forest you can find mammoths. They are very big and they have brown fur.
Mati: You can also find sabre-toothed tigers. They are big cats with two big teeth.
Emi: Sh! Look! There’s one mammoth behind the tree (Pointing to an image on the TV).
Mati: And there’s a sabre-toothed tiger on that hill (Pointing to an image on the TV).
(They all run away scared. The animals group sits down and the tools & weapons group goes to the front).

TOOLS & WEAPONS

Ceferino: Because we use stones for making weapons and tools.
Fede: Wow! So interesting!
Tony: What tools and weapons?
Giuli: Spears for killing animals and fishing (She’ll kill a stuffed animal).
Román: Axes and pick-axes for cutting down trees.
Ceferino: Knives for cutting.
Román: And bows and arrows for protecting ourselves from enemies.
Giuli: Look! I made an axe with a stick, grass and a rock.
Mandy: Cool!
(The tools & weapons group sits down and the clothes group goes to the front)

CLOTHES
Mandy: Wow! I love your dress (Looking at Juana P).
Juani P: Thank you! I’m wearing a skin dress.
Lu: It’s beautiful! What animal did you get the skin from?
Juani VPI killed a tiger.
Lu: Wow! Cool! It’s so soft and warm.
Mandy: It’s late! We have to go back home!
Mandy, Fede and Tony: Goodbye!!
(The scientists spin around and shout)

(All the children will sing “We will rock you” waving their craft axes).
We will Rock you- Stone age version

Listen to our song, it’s a rock song,
Banging on a rock, ‘cos it’s all about stone-age man,
Got mud on your face, ya big disgrace
Everybody rock to the stone-age bass!

We will, we will rock you!
We will, we will rock you!

Living in a cave, we are so brave
Banging on a flint, make a spark to make fire light,
Got mud on your face, ya big disgrace,
Everybody rock to the stone-age bass!

We will, we will rock you!
We will, we will rock you!

ANCIENT EGYPT- Fashion and Mummification (Junior I M)

Fashion

Martu: Juana, what material do you use to make you clothes?

Juani: I make them with a plant called flax.

Cata: Martina, what make up do you wear?

Martu: I wear grey paint called Kohl in my eyes and red in my lips.

Juani: Cata, what material do you use to make your jewels?

Cata: I make them with gold, silver and pottery.

Martu: Juana, what are you wearing today?

Juana: I'm wearing sandals, a dress, a bracelet and braids.

Martu: Mmm. You smell so well. What did you use to make your perfume?

Juana: I used a flower.

Cata: Only a flower?

Martu: No, a flower and oil.

Mummification

Martu: Juana, what is the mummification process?

Juana: Mummification happens when an important person dies. First, there is a ceremony conducted by four priests.
Cata, what do they do after that?

Cata: After that, the organs are taken from the body and they are placed in special jars called canopic jars. Natron, a special type of salt, is also added to the body to dry it for 40 days.

Martu: Sometimes the heart is left in the body.
And then?

Juana: The body is wrapped in bandages with jewels and lucky charms.

Cata: And finally, the body is put inside a coffin.

ANCIENT EGYPT- Writing & Education, and the Unification of Egypt (Junior I M)

The Unification of Egypt

Hele: What do you know about the history of our kingdom?

Lu: Long time ago, the king who ruled the people who lived in the north at the mouth of the Nile wore a red crown.

Martu: Their kingdom was called Lower Egypt.

Hele: The king who ruled the people who lived in the south at the base of the mountains wore a white crown.

Martu: Their land was called Upper Egypt.

Lu: Lower Egypt and Upper Egypt were always fighting.

Martu: But they spoke the same language.

Hele: And they had the same culture.

Lu: These two regions were combined into one country by a king called Menes.

Martu: This king made a special crown made up of the two crowns: a double crown.

Hele: It was a mixture of red and white.
Look! This is my red crown (Showing her crown).

Lu: And this is my blue crown (Showing her crown).

Martu: Oh! The blue crown is worn in ceremonial ocassions, right? By the pharaoh!

Hele: Yes! The pharaoh, the absolute ruler and king of Egypt. He is also considered a god.

Lu: Do you know that as a sign for respect we have to refer to him with an official name and never by his real name?

Martu: Wow! And he also has to marry his sister or half-sister so that his children have the blood of the gods.

Writing and Education

Martu: Do you know how to write using hieroglyphs?

Lu: I know a little bit.

Hele: What are hierogliphs?

Martu: Hieroglyphs are pictures thar represent letters. We read and write using hieroglyphs. They are not easy to read.

Lu: Can you teach us how to read them?

Martu: Yes, I can.

Hele: Oh, yes. I remember now. Hieroglyphs are pictures.

Lu: Yes. They represent an object or an action.
For example, after a boy's name you have to make a drawing of a boy.

Martu: And after the name of a girl you have to draw the figure of a girl.

Hele: Wow! You can write all kinds of words and phrases in hieroglyphs. Let's see if we can read this.
(The girls give out the sheets of paper to the parents).

ANCIENT EGYPT- Games & the Nile (Junior I M)

Games

Fede: I'm bored.

Facu: I have an idea!

Juani: What idea?

Facu: We can go fishing.

Fede: No, I'm tired.

Facu: We can play tug-of-war!

Fede and Juani: Yes! That's a great idea!

(The children play tug-of-war and Juani loses)

Juani: I don't like this game. We can play with my toys.

(The children play with toys)

Juani: We can play a board game.

Fede and Facu: Yes!!

(The children play a board game and Juani wins)

Juani: Yes! I won!

Fede and Facu: It's unfair!

Fede: We can dance and I can play a song!

(The children dance while Fede plays the harp).

Fede, Facu and Juana: We can also tell a story!

Fede: Once music didn't exist. One day, one boy created a strange instrument. It made nice noises which are what today we call music.

Juani and Facu: Wow!

Fede: It's your turn, Facu!

Facu: Long time ago, one boy walked to the afterlife and saw a monster part-pig, part-ant and part-wolf! Aaargh!!(Shouting) And the monster ate the boy!

Juani and Fede: Oh no!!

Facu: Your turn, Juani.

Juani: Once upon a time, animals were civilised like people. One day, Mr Cat got angry with Mr Elephant and they had a fight! And the cat killed the elephant! That's why cats are so important!

Facu and Fede: Oh, wow!

The Nile

Facu: What do you know about the Nile?

Fede: I know a little bit about the Akhet.

Juani: Me too! It's when the river floods the valley from July to September. It leaves black land behind, which is very fertile.

Fede: Yes, but if it flooded too much the crops can fail and the livestock die.

Facu: Yes! That's why my father uses a nilometre to measure the water level.

ANCIENT EGYPT- The Afterlife and Food (Junior I M)

The Afterlife

1st comic strip

Octa: A person can live again in the afterlife.

2nd comic strip

Migue: And we provide it with food, furniture, tools, and riches.

3rd comic strip
Octa: The dead person has to pass a giant serpent, a crocodile and a furnace, and avoid being caught in fishing nets.

4th comic strip
Cata: And also escape from people trying to drown him and cut his head off.

5th comic strip
Migue: After that, the god Anubis measures his heart against the Feather of Truth.

6th comic strip
Octa: If it balances the person is greeted to the Afterlife by Osiris.

7th comic strip
Cata: But if it doesn't he is devoured by a monster which is part crocodile, part lion and part hippopotamus.

Food
Migue: I'm hungry.

Cata: We can go to a farm and get fruit, vegetables, meat, milk and cheese.

Octa: Or we can hunt animals and birds. Or go fishing.

Migue: I like sweet things, such as cakes, pastries and fruit.

Octa: We can cook something.

Migue: Yes, but outside, because inside a house it's dangerous.

Cata: But eat your food quickly before it goes bad.
Look! Over there! There's a lot of people! Why don't we have a party?

Migue: Yes! Let's do it!

Octa: Let's give them some food.

Cata: Or sweet things. I like them!

(The children give out some food to parents).
